Principal and Assistant Principal

Principal and Vice Principal

Principal

Ms. Stapleton

I am privileged to serve as the Principal of Calavera Hills Middle School, bringing extensive experience and a passion for education to this role. Most recently, I served as Assistant Principal at Carlsbad High School from 2019 to 2023. Before that, I spent five years as a Teacher on Special Assignment at Calavera Hills Middle School, where I also had the honor of teaching Drama and AVID from 2004 to 2019. My teaching experience extends across multiple campuses, including Carlsbad High School, Sage Creek High School, and Valley Middle School, where I taught Theatre and AVID.

I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre, with a minor in English and American Literature, from the University of California, San Diego, and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of San Diego.

As a proud graduate of Carlsbad High School and the parent of a Sage Creek High School graduate, I have a deep-rooted connection to this community. I am dedicated to building meaningful relationships with the students, families, and staff of Calavera Hills Middle School and fostering a collaborative environment focused on academic excellence and personal growth.

Assistant Principal

Ms. Leong

It is hard to believe that next year will be my twentieth year at Calavera Hills Middle School. Prior to being an Assistant Principal, I was a special educator for many years. Since I began my teaching career in Los Angeles in 1995, I have been passionate about ensuring that all students feel valued and included on campus. While I was in Los Angeles, I taught second grade and special education. I spent two years as an inclusion facilitator where I worked with students and staff to include students with disabilities in general education classes and activities.

I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, from the University of California, Riverside, and a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Mt. St. Mary’s.

I am a parent of two children who attended Carlsbad schools and graduated from Sage Creek High School. My children constantly inspire me as an educator through their empathy and kindness, which remind me of the importance of nurturing these qualities in students.
