The City of Carlsbad has recently changed the laws regarding e-Bikes in Carlsbad. As a result we will be regularly checking all e-bikes for permits starting on March 27, 2026. After Spring Break, Carlsbad Police Department School Resource Officers will be assisting with checking permits and enforcing City of Carlsbad e-bike laws. Please see the link below for more information about the new e-bike laws.

Learning Lab

  • The CHMS Learning Lab is voluntary and open to all students. Students may choose to take part in our Learning Lab on days that it is helpful and choose to not participate on days that it does not meet their learning needs.
  • While the CHMS Learning Lab is optional, we will take roll each day. This way, we will know who is taking advantage of this service and parents can require their own children to participate. Parents will receive daily emails of confirmation of their child’s attendance.
  • Students are expected to behave in such a way that does not make it difficult for other students to take advantage of this program.

Community Service Opportunities

2026-2027 Kids for Peace Internship
Incoming Freshman for the 2026-2027 school year are eligible to start earning their required 20 hours of community service this summer. Kids for Peace wants to invite current 8th grade students to be part of the 2026-2027 Kids for Peace internship program. It is not only a chance to earn community service hours, but also learn the ins and outs of non-profit work, get opportunities to connect with local businesses and build on their experiences for college essays. Students are welcome to apply every year of their high school career. Incoming Freshman and current students from any high school in Carlsbad and surrounding areas are welcome to be part of the Kids for Peace internship. This year, the internship included students from Sage, CHS, LCC, San Dieguito and Pacific Ridge High Schools. Meetings are held the 3rd Thursday of the month in the Sage Creek cafeteria. Learn more and sign up here!

Families of 8th grade students / incoming Freshman: Join Kids for Peace and Republic Services in helping TGIF Concert in the Park attendees properly sort their trash. This is a fun way to start earning the required 20 hours of community service for high school. Summer Volunteer Opportunity for Rising 9th Graders!!

CEF will be hosting our Summer Enrichment Camps at Kelly Elementary from June 15–August 14, and we’re excited to offer weekly volunteer opportunities for high school students (current and incoming). Most camps are designed for students in Kindergarten through 5th grade, with a few options open to middle school students as well.

As a Summer Enrichment Camp volunteer, students will:

  • Assist instructors with lesson materials and activities
  • Support campers during projects, games, and transitions
  • Help with classroom setup and cleanup
  • Model positive behavior and actively engage with students
  • Take attendance and help organize groups as needed
  • Help ensure a safe, welcoming environment for all participants

Volunteering for one half‑day, week‑long camp earns 18 volunteer hours, making this a great opportunity for students to nearly fulfill their graduation community service requirement.

The application process is quick.
