Learning Lab- Starts Sept. 2

  • The CHMS Learning Lab is voluntary and open to all students. Students may choose to take part in our Learning Lab on days that it is helpful and choose to not participate on days that it does not meet their learning needs.
  • While the CHMS Learning Lab is optional, we will take role each day. This way, we will know who is taking advantage of this service and parents can require their own children to participate. Parents will receieve daily emails of confirmation of their child’s attendance.
  • Students are expected to behave in such a way that does not make it difficult for other students to take advantage of this program.

CHMS Cell Phone Policy

Students must have all mobile communication devices turned off and kept out to sight during the school day, both in and out of the classroom. This policy begins from the time students enter campus until they exit campus at the end of the day. If a student need to contact a parent during the school day, they may come to the office for assistance.
We ask you to please review these policies with your student(s) to ensure that they understand expectations at CHMS. Additional information can be found on the CUSD website Teachers and administrators will review these policies with students as the year begins. Thank you for your support in helping us to maximize student learning!

Parking at CHMS

Parking at Calavera is always a challenge. This year is even a little more challenging as CHE adds additional T-K classes and our school continues to grow. Please be courteous to our staff and drop off on the outside loop only to allow staff to park on the inside part of the parking lot. As always, please do not block the accessible parking spaces when dropping off your students. Please see
Drop Off/Pick Up Protocol for more information.

Strata Gate Release Times

If your Coyote will be exiting campus via the Strata gate at the back of our campus, please be aware that we are reverting back to the protocol of holding the e-bikes for 5 minutes to allow pedestrians a few minutes to exit campus before the bikes are released. This may delay release times for students exiting that gate. Please consider picking up at the front parking lot if you want to avoid the wait.  It is our hope that this will improve conditions at the back gate and ensure student safety. Of course, we will monitor the situation and adjust accordingly. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Bike Permit Reminders

  • New Permits are required for all students new to CUSD, move into CUSD during the school year, or decided after the start of the school year that they want to ride their Bicycle to school; the online application link is live year-round.
  • CUSD recommends all new permit holders attend an in-person Bike of e-Bike Safety Course and/or Presentation. Currently the City of Carlsbad is offering these for free, once per quarter. Visit the City of Carlsbad website for more information. Because these courses are not offered year round, however, CUSD will also accept evidence of participation in an online Bike/e-Bike Safety Course and/or Presentation such as this free option.
  • Permits may be revoked for dangerous or reckless bike behaviors
