Quote of the Week
“Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome.” Booker T. Washington
As we approach the end of the school year, it's important to remember that success isn’t just about where we stand academically but about how we’ve grown through the challenges we've faced. Whether it was pushing through tough assignments, balancing responsibilities, or overcoming setbacks, every obstacle conquered is a step toward success. Let’s finish strong, stay positive, and recognize the strength we’ve built along the way.
SBAC Testing
This year, Calavera Hills Middle School will give the State SBAC tests between May 5-23, 2025 and the students will test in their subject-specific classes. Please read the SBAC Parent Information Letter for details regarding the state testing and ways you can help support your child. Thank you.
Nordson Tech Assembly
Just a reminder: we will kick off the week after Spring Break with an excited Science based assembly. The Nordson Tech Prize Winner will be announced at this assembly!

No Phone Policy
As you may know, CUSD Instructional Services recently sent the following reminder about the cell phone policy:
Middle School: Students must have all mobile communication devices turned off and kept out of sight during the school day, both in and out of the classroom.
We ask you to please review these policies with your student(s) to ensure that they understand expectations at their school site. Additional information can be found on the CUSD website. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your site principal. Thank you for your support in helping us to minimize distractions in the classroom in order to maximize student learning!

Learning Lab and Lunch Bunch Update
Please encourage your students with Ds or Fs to spend some time working on catching up with their assignments before the end of the grading period on April 25.
After Spring Break, we will be sending attendance emails to caretakers of students who attend Learning Lab in the mornings, and our new Lunch Bunch program that will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Learning Lab will continue to be on a drop in basis for any student that needs time to work, or support in any of their classes. Students will need to stay for the entire time from 7:45-8:15 in the morning. We will continue to have the library at our home base and offer Learning Lab Monday-Thursdays.
Starting the week after Spring Break, we will start our Lunch Bunch program. Caretakers of students with grades of a D or F will receive information about the program and have the opportunity to notify us if they would like their student to spend their Tuesday and Wednesday lunches working in a classroom with the support of a teacher until they bring their grades up to passing.
If you have any questions about Learning Lab or the Lunch Bunch program, please reach out to our MTSS teacher, Sarah Rines at srines@carlsbadusd.net
CHS Musical: Hadestown Teen Edition
The Carlsbad High School Drama Department will present a performance of Hadestown on Wednesday, April 30 at 5pm. Admission for this performance is free for Middle School Students and one accompanying guardian. Students will not be admitted without a guardian.
Hadestown is a musical retelling of the ancient Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice and their epic quest to escape the underworld. The show is full of memorable characters, anthemic songs, and a timeless story of courage and determination. It is suitable for ages 8 and above.
The performance will include a 5 minute stretch break in lieu of an intermission. After the show, there will be a 10-15 minute Q&A with the Cast, Crew, and Pit Orchestra.
