Quote of the Week

“The universe doesn’t allow perfection” —Stephen Hawking

We should encourage our students  that the imperfections found in ourselves and the world drive innovation and growth in the universe and in our own lives.  We shouldn;t strive for perfection, we should strive for our own personal growth.

Coyote Crew Parent Volunteers needed for the Spring

We are still looking for Parent Volunteers at lunchtime each day for the Spring.  Our hope is to offer students a variety of activities to participate in each day during their lunchtime.  If you have some flexibility in your day and are interested in coming on campus to work with our students, please complete the volunteer form

Field Expectations

This week we had over 200 students sign Field Expectations Agreement. We are already seeing an improvement  in behavior on the field at lunch. For example, students are no longer jumping on the track and field equipment and we witnessed a group of 8th grade students playing Ring Around the Rosie.

Spring Music Concert

CHMS Band, Choir, and Orchestra will entertain us with their musical abilities at 6:00 pm on Thursday, March 28.  All are welcome to join us at the CHMS Gym for the fun!

Sage Creek ArtFest

Sage Creek High School’s ArtFest will be April 12, 2024 from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. This year’s theme is Live in Color! The festival will highlight a variety of student art and eclectic performances from our music, theater, and dance departments. Dance will even be hosting a camp for children to perform the day of the festival! In addition, student Genius Projects, interactive art booths and experiences, and food trucks will ensure there is something for all CUSD families and community members to enjoy.  For more information check out the  ArtFest website.

Shoes for San Diego 8th Graders Affected by the Flood

CHMS Kids for Peace is hoping to collect 79 new and (VERY GENTLY) used pairs of shoes for 8th graders at a tuition-free charter school in Southeast San Diego. These students lost most of everything they had in the recent flooding and are in need of basic necessities. We are partnering with the Southeast San Diego Kids for Peace chapter to get every 8th grader at KIPP Adelante Charter outfitted with a new (or newish) pair. If interested and able to participate, please see this Sign Up Genius to select the pair you will contribute.  Tennis shoes are best and can be found at Target / Walmart for under $30. Simply bind the shoebox closed with a rubber band and mark on it: SHOE SIZE, GENDER AND HOMEROOM so that the shoes may be easily distributed to the students. The shoe donations do not need to come from CHMS - feel free to share this opportunity to donate with other local Carlsbad families. We are really hoping to cover the soles of every 8th grade soul. Thanks in advance for your compassion and generosity! The last day to donate is 4/15.

 Picking Up a Student Early?

As a reminder, if you need to pick up your student early, you must sign them out at the attendance desk and you are required to show a valid ID.  Only adults (18+) listed on the student’s emergency contact list may pick up a student.  To alleviate the wait times, we suggest calling the attendance hotline at 760-331-6470 or filling out the attendance form in the morning rather than calling right before arrival.  Also, if your student contacts you because they are not feeling well, they still need to go to the health office to check out.  They should not be using their cell phones to contact parents.  This could result in a cell phone violation.

Donations Needed for CHM Library

CHM Library is in need of  new or gently used board games, puzzles, and card games for students to play in the library at lunch.  They are also looking for age-appropriate books to use as prizes for library lunchtime activities.  Students can bring donations directly to the library or you may drop items off in the front office.
