Quote of the Week
“Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed.” -Booker T. Washington.
It is important to teach our students that success is not simply reaching a goal, but it is about their determination and perseverance in overcoming obstacles along the way.
Welcome to Second Semester!
It is remarkable how the first semester of the 2023-2024 school year has flown by. Teachers will be submitting their final grades this week and our first semester report card will be available in aeries on February 7.
It is a good time to remind students that we start with a clean slate on January 29. Staying on top of assignments and making up missing assignments when absent will help when striving towards second semester goals. Remember to work hard and overcome obstacles along the way!
Picking up your student early?
As a reminder, if you need to pick up your student early, you must sign them out at the attendance desk and you are required to show a valid ID. Only adults (18+) listed on the student’s emergency contact list may pick up a student. Also, if your student contacts you because they are not feeling well, they still need to go to the health office to check out.

Black History Month Event at Carlsbad City Library
Celebrate Black History Month at the Carlsbad City Library with award-winning author Dr. Breanna J. McDaniel as she discusses her book, "Go Forth and Tell: The Life of Augusta Baker, Librarian and Master Storyteller" on February 8 at the Carlsbad City Library (1775 Dove Lane). Families with children of all ages are welcome.
“Go Forth and Tell,” is a picture book biography about beloved librarian and storyteller Augusta Braxton Baker, the first Black coordinator of children’s services at all branches of the New York Public Library. She inspired patrons by showcasing positive stories featuring African Americans and inspired her patrons to create their own work; including James Baldwin, Audre Lorde and Walter Dean Meyers.
