Bike and eBike Permit Information
Permit Process
All students are required to obtain a Bicycle Permit if they are planning on riding a Bicycle to school and parking it on campus. Students wanting to ride a Bike or eBike must complete a Carlsbad Unified School District (CUSD) Bicycle Permit Application (linked below) and attend a CUSD approved Bike/eBike Safety Course and/or Presentation.
CUSD approved Safety Courses and/or Presentations currently include, but are not limited to:
-
This free online eBike Safety and Training Course, currently endorsed by the California Highway Patrol
-
Any in-person California High Patrol Safety Courses and/or Presentation (usually free)
-
Any City of Carlsbad, Oceanside, San Marcos, Vista, or any other City in the County of San Diego’s Safety Bike/eBike Safety Course and/or Presentation (usually free)
-
Any San Diego County Bike Coalition Safety Course and/or Presentation (these often have a fee)
-
The Motorcycle Safety Foundation and PeopleForBikes collaborative eBike eCourse ($19.99)
-
Electric Bike Academy's eBike eCourse ($50.00) (CUSD students receive a 10% discount by using promo code Carlsbad10)
After completion of this application process, and providing the student’s school Front Office with proof of attendance to any approved Safety Course and/or Presentation, students will then receive a district-issued Bicycle Permit Sticker which will need to be affixed to their Bicycle. Stickers will be issued through the student’s school Front Office. Students who do not have a sticker visibly affixed to their Bicycle will not be permitted to bring their Bicycle onto any CUSD campus. There will be no charge to students for any portion of this application process.
