Quote of the Week

“One of the things I learned the hard way was that it doesn’t play to get discouraged. Keeping busy and making optimism a way of life can restore your faith in yourself.” —Lucille Ball

It is important to remind our students to keep trying in the face of adversity and always be optimistic about the future.

8th Grade Promotion Pictures- 4/16 or 4/17

8th graders will have their photos taken on 4/16 or 4/17 during their PE period.  An order form and flyer were sent home Friday with your student with the date they are having their picture taken.  All photos can be ordered online at shopstudio1.com or by using the order form provided.  If ordering online please use school code U465.  Please note there are no make ups.

Shoes for San Diego 8th Graders Affected by the Flood

CHMS Kids for Peace is hoping to collect 79 new and (VERY GENTLY) used pairs of shoes for 8th graders at a tuition-free charter school in Southeast San Diego. These students lost most of everything they had in the recent flooding and are in need of basic necessities. We are partnering with the Southeast San Diego Kids for Peace chapter to get every 8th grader at KIPP Adelante Charter outfitted with a new (or newish) pair. If interested and able to participate, please see this Sign Up Genius to select the pair you will contribute.  Tennis shoes are best and can be found at Target / Walmart for under $30. Simply bind the shoebox closed with a rubber band and mark on it: SHOE SIZE, GENDER AND HOMEROOM so that the shoes may be easily distributed to the students. The shoe donations do not need to come from CHMS - feel free to share this opportunity to donate with other local Carlsbad families. We are really hoping to cover the soles of every 8th grade soul. Thanks in advance for your compassion and generosity! The last day to donate is 4/15.

SBAC Testing

This year, Calavera Hills Middle School will give the State SBAC tests between May 6-24, 2024 and the students will test in their subject-specific classes. Please read the SBAC Parent Information Letter for details regarding the state testing and ways you can help support your child.

Exhibition Night

Please mark your calendar for May 2, 5:00 pm.  Our Calavera Hills Middle School Exhibition Night is a great opportunity to share in our joy of learning.  We start at 5:00 pm with a PTSA general meeting. We will officially unveil our Butterfly Mural immediately following.  At 5:15 our music program will perform for you.  5:30 pm the classroom doors will open for your students to share with you the exceptional work they have been doing in their classes.  Hope to see you there!

Coyote Crew Parent Volunteers needed for the Spring

We are still looking for Parent Volunteers at lunchtime each day for the Spring.  Our hope is to offer students a variety of activities to participate in each day during their lunchtime.  If you have some flexibility in your day and are interested in coming on campus to work with our students, please complete the volunteer form

Summer Academic Enrichment Program with San Diego Mission Academy- Starting 7/1

San Diego Mission Academy (SDMA) is currently accepting middle and high school students for their free online summer Academic Enrichment Program starting July 1st to help students earn credits for advancement and recovery during their summer break.

For questions about San Diego Mission Academy, contact Linda Ketterer at lketterer@sdmissionacademy.org

 Picking Up a Student Early?

As a reminder, if you need to pick up your student early, you must sign them out at the attendance desk and you are required to show a valid ID.  Only adults (18+) listed on the student’s emergency contact list may pick up a student.  To alleviate the wait times, we suggest calling the attendance hotline at 760-331-6470 or filling out the attendance form in the morning rather than calling right before arrival.  Also, if your student contacts you because they are not feeling well, they still need to go to the health office to check out.  They should not be using their cell phones to contact parents.  This could result in a cell phone violation.

Donations Needed for CHM Library

CHM Library is in need of  new or gently used board games, puzzles, and card games for students to play in the library at lunch.  They are also looking for age-appropriate books to use as prizes for library lunchtime activities.  Students can bring donations directly to the library or you may drop items off in the front office.
